For the past couple months I have been working on a pet project that is finally LIVE! Florida Bar Scene is my latest project and one of the most complete WordPress Themes I have created. You can view it at www.floridabarscene.com. Florida Bar Scene (FBS) is to become the most complete bar guide for the state of Florida. Right now we cover the Tampa Bay area, but are branching out into other cities shortly. The next city on our agenda is Orlando. The website is set up so each bar has it’s own post through WordPress. They are organized by their category and can be found through using the drop down navigation. If a bar is a PREMIUM member they will have their logo and Google Map displayed. Here is an example of what a premium membership looks like: Premium Member. So far I have over 250 bar listed and have another 150 bars to be uploaded to the website. When it’s all done it’ll incorporate over 450 bars in the Tampa area ranging from your neighborhood bar to your fanciest nightclubs. Once all the bars are finished the next step is to add the ability to comment on each bar and rate each bar. I expect that functionality to be added within the week.

New Business Cards
Posted in: Blog

I recently designed some business cards for a client and I was sick of using my local print shop. They try to nickle and dime me every time I used them and I eventually got fed up. I went with an online print shop known as MOO. I had used them a couple years ago for my own personal business cards but at that time there wasn’t a lot of options. Now things are a lot different. Printing cards has never been easier. The cards are printed with a digital printer so images are crisp and clear. They’re not as cheap as business cards printed with short-run printing, but often the quality from the short-run jobs is lacking. When I worked at a print shop I was constantly having to adjust colors to get them to look right for a short-run job. My cards from MOO look great. I’ll post some images of the business cards soon. -

WordPress Cheat Sheet Round-Up
Posted in: Blog
While designing themes for WordPress I realized I’m extremely forgetful. I was going to create a cheat sheet for myself then I thought, “I bet there are already some out there on the world wide web.” Here’s a collection of a few useful WordPress cheat sheets that I use. There a lot more out there but I find these cheat sheets to be my favorites.

Live Hands Golf website
Posted in: Web Design
Here’s a recent website done using WordPress as a CMS. The client Tom Shea has a lot of content so we utilize drop down menu’s to control the information architecture of the website. This was a challenging website since many of the pages look different, which required many different template files. Another challenge was the size restrictions. I’m used to designing relatively fluid websites and to reacquaint myself to overflow attributes. I was able to keep the website looking almost exactly like the PSD file given to me so we were able to avoid making any major changes to the site since it was all pre-approved. -

New Lema-Solar website
Posted in: Web Design
Another web design rush job was given to me recently. Pretty simple site utilizing WordPress as a CMS. The site design didn’t purpose any challenges so I was able to get online within hours of receiving the PSD file. Once online the client made a lot of changes that required some major changes to the size of the site, and reformatting. To be completely honest I think the original site design is a step up from the finished product but unfortunately I don’t get to make the final decisions. The client is very pleased with the website and that is what really matters. Check out the website! >>
