My new redesign of ocydesign.com has been in the works for a long time. Moving to Tampa, Fl, without a job had finally given me the amount of time I needed to redesign the site. I have wanted to use wordpress as a CMS for a long time and decided to tackle it with this redesign. At times it was frustrating but I’ve learned a lot through the whole process.
Here’s a piece of advice if you’re thinking about creating themes for WordPress. Make sure to install WordPress locally on your machine. I’m using a Mac so I installed MAMP first, then created a database, then install WordPress. It has made a world of difference. Web Designer Wall has a great tutorial here.
As far as theming went I used “How to be a Rock Start WordPress Designer” by Collis Ta’eed as a resource. It was a great book and helped me through some sticky situations. I recommend it to anyone that has a limited PHP background. I also used WordPress Codex when it came to creating “The Loop”, and to solve other various questions.
All in all I’m very satisfied with how the design turned out. Like the redesign? Download it free with the link located at the footer of this page!
