While designing themes for WordPress I realized I’m extremely forgetful. I was going to create a cheat sheet for myself then I thought, “I bet there are already some out there on the world wide web.” Here’s a collection of a few useful WordPress cheat sheets that I use. There a lot more out there but I find these cheat sheets to be my favorites.

    Good News

I’ve been super busy lately working on various freelance projects. If it keeps up at the current pace I’ll be quitting my serving job and working full-time as a freelance web designer. Woot! I’m currently working on a few tutorials for this site involving WordPress. I’ve been developing some sites recently using WordPress as a CMS and have developed a few things that other people can benefit from. The tutorials will be aimed at people that are just starting to use WordPress as a CMS.

I also have more websites to add to my portfolio! I’ve recently finished a few projects that I’ve been dying to add but just haven’t had time. I plan on adding them tonight.

ribbon_thumbI’ve been teaching myself the in’s and out’s of WordPress by building my own theme from scratch. This theme is the fruit of that labor and now it’s available for download. While teaching myself I’ve used a variety of resources. My main resource has been How to be a Rockstar WordPress Designer by Collis Ta’eed and Harley Alexander.

wordpressI found a useful link from DesignBump with a list of cheat-sheets for WordPress. Some of the cheat-sheets are new to me but others I use and have been an asset for creating my personal blog theme. I’m new to WordPress but it’s not so hard to grasp and with these resources it’s even easier.  One resource that should be included in the list is “Huge Compilation of WordPress Code” from WP Hacks. Very useful with a wealth of information.

    New Website!

new_websiteMy new redesign of ocydesign.com has been in the works for a long time. Moving to Tampa, Fl, without a job had finally given me the amount of time I needed to redesign the site. I have wanted to use wordpress as a CMS for a long time and decided to tackle it with this redesign. At times it was frustrating but I’ve learned a lot through the whole process.

Here’s a piece of advice if you’re thinking about creating themes for WordPress. Make sure to install WordPress locally on your machine. I’m using a Mac so I installed MAMP first, then created a database, then install WordPress. It has made a world of difference. Web Designer Wall has a great tutorial here.
